LANXESS inaugurated its new Semi-Crystalline Products plant at the Jhagadia site, Gujarat on January 31, 2012. The plant will produce high-tech plastics Durethan and Pocan. These products cater to fields such as the automotive industry, electrical/electronics industries, construction industry as well as to medicine, sports and recreation industries.

On January 10, 2012, LANXESS inaugurated two new production facilities at Jhagadia site. These production facilities belong to Rhein Chemie and Material Protection Products business unit. The Material Protection Products business unit is expected to provide a range of biocidal active ingredients and preservatives to sectors such as wood protection products, industrial preservatives, disinfectants and beverages while the Rhein Chemie plant will offer customized and service products for various sectors of the rubber, lubricant and plastics industry.

Material Protection Products facility will provide materials to the paints and coatings that will protect and beautify the incredible number of new apartment buildings and offices that will be built in the years to come.

Rhein Chemie is a wholly-owned subsidiary of LANXESS facility and will become a key supplier of rubber chemicals to the tire industry.

With the opening of these three plants, LANXESS has successfully completed a further expansion phase at the Jhagadia production site.

The new plant in Gujarat in Western India has an annual capacity of 35,000 metric tons and is the most modern facility of its kind in Asia. Here, roughly 200 employees from the Ion Exchange Resins business unit manufacture products for industrial water treatment, the semi-conductor and pharmaceutical industries, the food sector and the energy industry. Due to rapid population growth and the trend toward urbanization, there is growing demand for clean water throughout the world, including in India, and this demand is set to increase by around a third by 2030, according to recent studies.

The rubber chemicals plant features the latest technology and was constructed over a period of less than two years. It will serve the global rubber and mineral oil additive markets as well as the rapidly growing Indian tire and rubber industry with high-quality LANXESS Vulkanox® antioxidants.

In June 2010, LANXESS India had announced the third production facility in Jhagadia which belongs to the business unit Semi Crystalline Products. On January 13, 2011 LANXESS broke ground for new compounding facilities with a capacity of 20,000 metric tons per year. These facilities will start producing the high-tech plastics Durethan and Pocan at the beginning of 2012. Construction of the new compounding facilities has already begun and they are due to go on stream with a workforce of 60 at the start of 2012.
