LANXESS to showcase green and innovative solutions for the coatings industry

Mumbai, February 23, 2012 - LANXESS, a global specialty chemicals company, presents its comprehensive product portfolio for the paints and coatings industry at the exhibition PaintIndia 2012 in Mumbai from February 23-25. The business unit Inorganic Pigments (IPG) showcases its broad range of environmentally friendly pigments while business unit, Material Protection Products (MPP) displays its biocides which are effective for the coatings industry present at this exhibition.

Pigments
The paints and coatings industry in India is growing at a rate of more than 10% annually, thus exceeding the GDP growth. Additionally, the latest census data in India shows that the urban population is steadily growing, generating a higher demand for improved infrastructure in the cities together with higher demand for housing. This will further bolster the growth of the paints and coatings industry. ”We feel LANXESS is very well positioned to meet this growing demand. We will continue to invest in our business in India with our high performance Bayferrox® and Colortherm® grades. We provide a reliable and highly innovative basis to our customers, allowing them more efficient and sustainable processing for their high quality products”, said Dr. Wolfgang Oehlert, Vice President for the Inorganic Pigments business unit in Asia Pacific.

“Overall, the Indian paints and coatings market has a lot of potential,  the high end application sectors in the coatings industry in particular is very important for the growth of the inorganic pigments business in the Asia-Pacific region”, Oehlert added.
“In order to optimize the opportunity of being close to the customer, we are also taking time out to intensify our relationships with them during the trade show,” said Buhary Shamsudeen, Head of the Inorganic Pigments business unit in India. “We will introduce our high performance pigment solutions and tailored specialties to existing and potential customers here in India and also to our valued customers from other Asian countries”, added Shamsudeen.

The business unit IPG features its industry leading Bayferrox® and Colortherm® pigment ranges at the exhibition. All products are manufactured using state-of-the-art processes that comply with highest sustainability standards. The extraordinarily lightfast, weather-stable and chemical resistant products are distinguished by their outstanding quality. They are used in a wide variety of paint applications, such as marine coatings, industrial finishes, household paints, architectural coatings or colorant applications.

Among the products LANXESS IPG is highlighting at the trade show, Bayferrox® 943 is a high-performance reddish iron oxide yellow pigment. The unique crystal modification gives it an industry unmatched orange undertone. Additional to the unique color shade, the short needle-shaped structure of the pigment ensures a low viscosity behavior in pigment preparations which make the Bayferrox®943 a preferred grade for coating and tinting systems.

The outstanding properties of the low-silking yellow pigment Bayferrox® 915 result from its unique particle morphology. The pigment particles are virtually spherical, so that no orientation of the particles is preferred during the brush strokes, thus the silking effect is avoided. The spherical structure also results in significantly lower viscosity behavior of pigment preparations compared to normal yellow iron oxide pigments.

Bayferrox® 3910LV, a micronized, high performance yellow iron oxide pigment from LANXESS, shows a significant lower viscosity behavior in pigment preparations compared to standard yellow iron oxide pigments and is therefore the first choice for iron oxide yellow in many tinting systems. The low viscosity property of this unmatched pigment is a result of a special production process unique to LANXESS.

Colortherm® Yellow 10, an iron oxide yellow pigment with improved heat stability, is the industry’s first choice when it comes to yellow iron oxide pigments in heat demanding applications like coil coatings or powder coatings. LANXESS has developed this innovative product through highly efficient surface coating and pigment processing.

Biocides
The LANXESS Material Protection Products business unit will be featuring a range of biocides under the reputed brand name Preventol®. Along with outstanding technical service, LANXESS offers broad product lines in industrial preservatives which can be used in applications such as coating, polymer emulsions, antifouling paints, mineral slurries, glues and construction chemicals, wood coatings and metal workings fluids among others. The recently installed manufacturing unit for biocides at the LANXESS site in Jhagadia will manufacture A14 D, D6 and D7 range of Preventol® products.

A growing trend on the biocide market is the use of cost-efficient products that are effective against target organisms without damaging the environment. The LANXESS biocides range for coatings fulfill key demands such as low toxicity, non-VOC, non FA, environmentally friendly, cost effective and compatibility with other components of the coating.

“LANXESS is the largest provider of biocides in India. With our proven Preventol line of products, we are equipped to cater to the demand of the large biocides market in India. Some of these products will be produced at our new manufacturing facility in Jhagadia in India” said Vinod Agnihotri, Head of Business unit – Material Protection Products, LANXESS India.
