LANXESS supports Teach for India

2014-2018:
LANXESS India Private Limited, a subsidiary of leading global specialty chemicals company LANXESS, completed its association with Teach For India (TFI), a pledge of five years commitment to support the not-for-profit organization’s efforts towards providing quality education to children. The company has delivered a sum of  EUR 75000 (approx. INR 53 lakhs) per year for projects since 2014.

Each year, a small ceremony was organized at LANXESS house, Thane, where TFI received cheques from the country representative of LANXESS India Private Limited in the presence of other dignitaries. These contributions  have helped TFI in their quest to support fellows, who give up their jobs for volunteering to educate the under privileged children in municipal schools.  Till now, LANXESS India has supported 75 fellows(trained teachers on a 2 year full time paid commitment)  and 2400 students directly. Some of the fellows that LANXESS has supported were then well placed in various corporate  organizations such as Thermax and some pursued further studies in Harvard University and Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

January 2013:
Impressing on its continual commitment towards education, LANXESS extended its support to Teach for India (TFI) for another five years, till year 2018. The announcment was made by Dr. Axel C. Heitmann, Chairman of the LANXESS Board of Management, during his visit to India in January 2013.

December 2012:
LANXESS presented its 2013 sponsorship to Teach for India. Fourteen children from municipal school along with their TFI fellows were invited to visit LANXESS office in Thane. They were given a office tour followed by an informative talk about LANXESS and its products.

November 2011:
Further strengthening its commitment to the cause of education, LANXESS continued with its commitment to the three year sponsorship with Teach for India. The contribution made by LANXESS will help TFI to sustain their current operations in Mumbai as well as support expansion activities to encompass New Delhi and Jhagadia.

On November 23, 2011, LANXESS invited twenty five bright young students along with their ‘fellows’ and two staff members from Teach For India to visit LANXESS India office at Thane. They were given a tour of the LANXESS Technical Rubber Centre.

October 2011:
A week long "Book Drive" was organized at the LANXESS, Thane office. The idea was to create awareness among the employees about how unused educational articles could be a treasure for the kids and could become fun way of imparting education at school.

Contributing to the growth and development of the socio-economic ecosystem in every region of its operation is one of the core values of LANXESS. Education is an area that LANXESS believes has the maximum potential to benefit the lives of citizens of tomorrow. This would in turn foster the growth of the economy.

A project of Teach to Lead, a not-for-profit organization, TFI is recruiting and mobilizing top Indian college graduates and young professionals, namely fellows, who commit to teaching full-time for two years in underfunded schools. Post completion of the devoted two years in full time teaching, these fellows will become lifelong advocates for equity in education, working from within various sectors.

This project is modeled after Teach for America and was implemented following McKinsey & Company’s report on the project’s favorable prospects for success in India.
