LANXESS listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World for the sixth time in succession

  • Commitment in the areas of innovation management and climate strategy highlighted
  • More than 3,400 companies invited to take part in assessment

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS will be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World for the sixth time in succession from September 19, 2016. The composition of this sustainability index, which is recognized throughout the world, is determined once a year on the basis of financially relevant environmental, social and governance factors.

The index follows the “best-in-class” principle: the DJSI World only lists the top 10 percent of companies assessed in each sector. This year, special recognition was given to LANXESS’ performance in the management of innovation processes and its climate strategy, among others. The group had set itself new climate protection targets at the beginning of the year, having achieved the climate goals for 2015. LANXESS’ target for 2025 is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent.

“We are delighted by our renewed listing in the index and see this as confirmation of our commitment in the area of sustainability. Sustainable economic success is impossible today without a responsible approach to environment and society. The guiding principle of sustainable development is firmly anchored in the corporate strategy,” said LANXESS member of the Board of Management Hubert Fink.

The DJSI is compiled through collaboration between S&P Dow Jones Indices, one of the world’s biggest providers of financial market indices, and RobecoSAM, an asset manager specializing in sustainability investments. This year, more than 3,400 of the world’s biggest companies in industrial countries and emerging markets were invited to take part in the assessment.
