LANXESS celebrates fire safety week in Jhagadia

Jhagadia, April 20, 2012: LANXESS, a global specialty chemicals company and a strong proponent of high safety standards observed the Fire Safety week at its manufacturing site in Jhagadia from April 16 – April 20, 2012. This was organized to reiterate the importance and reinforce compliance of safety norms within the site.

The observance of fire safety week started with an address by the Executive Director and Site head, Jhagadia – Dr. Dattaprasad Talekar and rolled on to have different activities for engaging employees in this initiative, which included Fire Safety Quiz, refresher training for security personnel (Fire) and competitions based on Hydrant drill, Extinguisher drill and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) set drill to name a few.

These activities were meant to enhance the awareness and understanding about different kinds of fire, course of action to be taken in case of fire and best practices for fire prevention.

Employees who are aware of the fire safety norms and have diligently followed them were encouraged to participate in these competitions. In order to acknowledge their understanding of fire safety, prizes were given away at the end of the celebration to the winners of all the competitions. Overall it was a valuable learning experience for all employees at the site.

In his opening speech to the employees, Dr. Talekar said, “We, at the LANXESS site in Jhagadia have to make continuous efforts to maximise safety in operations and to safeguard employees, the environment and society. We are conducting these activities to spread necessary awareness about how to avoid fire hazards in all spheres of human activity and to handle any situation efficiently in the shortest possible time with a special focus on prevention of fire in the workplace, ensuring operability of fire protection equipment and enabling employees to control fire effectively.”
