LANXESS celebrates World Environment Day in Jhagadia

  • ‘Best out of waste paper’ competition for students of Sewa Rural and LANXESS employees
  • Tree plantation at the LANXESS site and at Sewa Rural

LANXESS, a global specialty chemicals company celebrated World Environment Day at its manufacturing site in Jhagadia in presence of LANXESS Management, GPCB member and employees. Dr. Dattaprasad Talekar, Executive Director – LANXESS India and Site Head - Jhagadia led the event and invited all employees for the tree plantation, wherein around 100 saplings were planted.

Following his speech, the employees who won the competition, in making best out of waste paper, were rewarded. Employees were also given green wrist bands to express solidarity for the cause. That was followed by his address wherein he re-iterated that as a good citizen, it is our responsibility to create and maintain a green and safe environment around us.

This was followed by a visit to the Sewa Rural campus, a non-profit organization which LANXESS has supported in the past. The contribution was made towards setting up solar street lights, solar cookers and rain water harvesting at Vivekananda Gramin Tekniki Kendra (VGTK) vocational training centre of Sewa Rural. The Sewa Rural team showed the visitors the installed solar lights, solar cooker and also informed that developing of rain water harvesting will be possible only after the monsoon breaks in July.

After campus visit, LANXESS Jhagadia management, Sewa Rural management, students and S M Vaijnapurkar, Deputy Environment Engineer at Gujarat Pollution Control Board joined for the tree plantation at the VGTK premises. LANXESS contributed plants such as Neem tree, Badam tree, Gulmohar, Paras Pipada and Garmaro to Sewa Rural. Around fifteen saplings were planted at their site.

The students of Sewa Rural also participated in making ‘best out of waste’ competition with zest and wore green bands which added to the spree of the celebration.
