LANXESS contributes to Sanitation project in Jhagadia, Gujarat

Jhagadia, December 22, 2015: LANXESS, the global specialty chemicals company having a manufacturing facility in Jhagadia, Gujarat has contributed Rs. 5 lakhs to the Sanitation project initiated by the Central Government. This contribution being made through the Jhagadia Industries Association will help build toilet blocks in and around villages in Jhagadia.

A cheque of the contribution amount was handed over by Dr. Dattaprasad Talekar, Executive Director and Site Head Jhagadia, LANXESS India Pvt. Ltd. to Mr. Ashok Panjwani, President, Jhagadia Industries Association.

As part of a major thrust towards sanitation and hygiene, the Government of India has initiated a drive towards building toilets across the country. The Government has a very ambitious plan and has targeted to build 200 mio toilets in rural India by the year 2019 at a projected cost of USD 30bn. Construction of toilets is one aspect of the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) program, which intends to make India ‘open defecation’ free by 2019.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Dattaprasad Talekar said, “We are always happy to contribute to socially beneficial ventures which are of direct benefit to the people in and around Jhagadia. Looking at the shortage of proper sanitization facilities in Jhagadia, we decided to take this initiative and stepped forward to do our bit. Such initiatives, we believe, will help us make a difference to the public at large.”
