LANXESS wins Frost and Sullivan Green excellence Award

  • LANXESS’ sustainability strategy marked as an industry best practice.

LANXESS, the specialty chemicals company, has been conferred with the Green Excellence Award by Frost and Sullivan, a global analyst and research firm as a part of their first time held 2010 India Excellence in Chemicals, Materials and Food Awards.

The award was received by Mr. Venkatesh Sankaran, Director and Chief Financial Officer, LANXESS India, in a function held at Hotel Hyatt Regency in Mumbai yesterday. The assessment was conducted at a national level across the chemicals industry in India by a panel of eminent jury members.

LANXESS was recognized for its consistent efforts to ensure sustainable development in a commercially viable manner. The Green Chemistry strategy of LANXESS has been recognized as a propellant in positioning LANXESS as the greenest organization in the Indian chemical industry. LANXESS’ core value of balancing economy, ecology and society is a key driver for its ‘Green’ initiatives. The Frost and Sullivan Green Excellence award also validated the constant innovation that the company undertakes in improving the performance of its products and processes across the value chain to minimize risks for its people and environment.

Some initiatives of LANXESS that have led to this award are sophisticated rubber additives that cause reduced rolling resistance, reduce fuel consumption and thereby carbon emissions, introduction of lightweight plastics that allow for production of lighter cars which correspondingly use lesser fuel and carbon emissions, state-of-the-art ion exchange resins for water treatment and purification, emphasis on introduction of copolymers such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers (EVM) to develop more cost-effective solar modules. Additionally the benefits of cogeneration plant and waste water treatment facility in Nagda and Jhagadia have been appreciated.

Overall, the emphasis laid by LANXESS on global and local compliance, development of environmentally friendly products and processes as well as its efforts to contribute to the community in every region of its operation have proven as the determinants for this recognition.

On this occasion, Dr. Joerg Strassburger, Managing Director and Country Representative, LANXESS India said, “We are glad to have been recognized for our sustainability strategy and environmentally friendly initiatives. Sustainable development would always remain at the heart of all our initiatives and we strongly believe that this is in the interest of the Indian chemical industry, the end consumers as well as the environment.”

“LANXESS competes in an environment of strict margins and high competition, and yet has managed to emphasize responsible business practices while striving to maintain its reputation as a high quality value added chemical giant. Focusing on the core of their business, LANXESS has systematically worked to ensure the very essence of environmentally conscious chemistry. Such efforts are apparent in the constant innovation aimed at improving the performance of its products and value chain to minimize risks for both people and environment” added Mamta Wadhwa, Senior Director, Chemicals, Materials and Foods practice, Frost & Sullivan.
