LANXESS helps economic empowerment of women through a stitching centre in Durgapura village

Nagda, December 22, 2012: LANXESS India Private Limited, the leading specialty chemicals company having a manufacturing site in Nagda, has helped in setting up of a stitching centre for under privileged women at Durgupara village in Nagda. This has been accomplished by contributing for stitching equipment like embroidery machines, sewing machines, chairs and upgrading the civil infrastructure inside the premises. The infrastructure support for the centre includes a water storage tank, a water purifier, cupboards, benches and chairs as well as tailoring aids like scissors, measuring tapes etc. All women in the village including some girl students will be able to benefit from this stitching centre by acquiring necessary skills to later develop this as a source of income. The stitching school was inaugurated today at a simple ceremony in Durgapura village.

At the ceremony, Mr. Bappa Bandyopadhyay, Vice President – Manufacturing, Nagda site, said, “We have always tried to help the Nagda region through various initiatives in the area of education. Vocational training or skill development is an important part of that, particularly when it facilitates economic empowerment of women. We hope that the women of Durgupara will benefit from this well equipped stitching centre and will use this facility to their advantage.”

LANXESS had undertaken a similar initiative earlier in 2011 whereby stitching and tailoring machines and other peripheral support was provided to Shashkiya Prathamik Vidyalaya in Mehetwas village so that girl students of the school could develop this skill alongside their academic curriculum. Additionally, LANXESS has helped a training centre, where free training in sewing for women and girl children is organized by the Labour Welfare Board of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, with sewing machines, embroidery machines and peripherals like ceiling fans, water purifier etc.

This initiative from LANXESS comes close on the heels of another initiative less than a month before – when the company had supported the setting up of a well equipped library in Nagda.
