LANXESS celebrates International Year of Chemistry with students of schools in Nagda

LANXESS, a global specialty chemicals company having a manufacturing site at Nagda celebrated the International Year of Chemistry with the students of Bharat Commerce Vidyalaya and Shaskiya Prathamik Vidyalaya in Mehtawas.

On this occassion, LANXESS conducted a poster competition for around 300 students of the schools. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the students and many innovative ideas about conserving our environment. The competition helped the students express their thoughts on ways to tackle the current environmental challenges. The best posters will be rewarded by LANXESS.

These events for our future citizens will emphasize that chemistry is a creative science, essential for sustainability and improvements in our way of life. It will also underline the importance of research in solving global problems like availability of clean drinking water, urbanization etc”. said Bappa Bandyopadhyay, Vice President – Manufacturing, Nagda Site, LANXESS India.

Globally, LANXESS undertakes several initiatives in the area of education of chemistry to young students so that they appreciate the importance of chemistry in their lives.

The year 2011 is recognized as The International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC 2011), a worldwide celebration of the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of mankind. The year 2011 also commemorates the 100th anniversary of Marie Sklodowska - Curie's receipt of the 1911 Nobel Prize in Chemistry as well as the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

IYC is an initiative led by the IUPAC and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This would see the year long celebration initiating at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
