LANXESS India strongly encourages education in India

  • LANXESS India donates a school bus for slum dwelling children through Save the Children India
  • LANXESS India donates rupees 30 lakhs to Teach for India

LANXESS India, a specialty chemicals company and a fully owned subsidiary of LANXESS Deutschland Gmbh, has sponsored a school bus for slum dwelling children through Save The Children India (STCI), a non-governmental organization targeted at bettering the lot of poor children. STCI would be deploying the buses as means of transport for slum dwelling children to go to STCI school on a daily basis. This initiative is certainly likely to boost primary education amongst the slum dwelling children, many of whom do not have adequate resources for the same.
To mark this initiative, Dr. Rainier van Roessel, Member – Board of Management, LANXESS AG, handed over the key to the school bus to STCI at their premises on 1st December, 2010.

In the past, LANXESS India has also supported STCI by sponsoring five balwadis every year in greater Mumbai and supplying pure drinking water to these communities.

Further strengthening its commitment to the cause of education, LANXESS has donated rupees 30 lakhs (€ 50,000) to Teach for India (TFI) and has committed to continue supporting TFI in a similar way for three years. This contribution will help TFI to sustain their current operations in Mumbai as well as support expansion activities to encompass New Delhi and Jhagadia. A project of Teach to Lead, a not-for-profit organization, TFI is recruiting and mobilizing top Indian college graduates and young professionals, namely fellows, who commit to teaching full-time for two years in underfunded schools. Post completion of the devoted two years in full time teaching, these fellows will become lifelong advocates for equity in education, working from within various sectors.

Dr. Axel C. Heitmann, Chairman – Board of Management, LANXESS AG handed over the cheque to the Director, Teach for India in a ceremony at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai.

In many different ways, we have contributed towards primary or specialized education in areas closer to our sites and in and around Mumbai.
